# Can you run Google Ads without a website?

By Humfrid · Getting found · Published 2026-11-03 · https://humfrid.com/blog/google-ads-without-website/

> Only in a narrow way, and your ads work harder with a real website to land on. Google lets a business with a verified Business Profile use it as the landing page in Performance Max and Smart campaigns, but says that profile isn't a replacement for your website. Call-only ads are being retired. Your own site gives each ad a page that matches it and lets you measure bookings and sales. Humfrid builds that page from a few texts, live within a day, and keeps it right as your ads change.

Text Humfrid your business name and what you offer. You get a website your ads can point to, with your services and a clear way to reach you, live within a day, and you text any change to it. Start at https://humfrid.com/.

## Can I advertise on Google if I don't have a website?

Only in a narrow way. Google's help says [small businesses without a traditional website can use their Business Profile as their ad landing page](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/143059). When someone taps your ad, they land on a Google-hosted version of your profile instead of a site of your own.

Google lays out [2 main options](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/2580289) for a first campaign without a website: build a website with a website builder, or use your Business Profile as the landing page. Google itself says the profile option [isn't a replacement for your business's website](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/14325369).

That matters, because an ad only buys the tap. The page people land on decides whether the tap turns into a call, a booking or a sale, and that page is what Humfrid builds and keeps right for you: your own website, from a few texts. Google's help pages change often; everything here was checked on Google Ads Help in November 2026.

## Why do my ads need a real website to land on?

Because the page people land on is where a customer judges you, and Google looks at it too. Quality Score, Google's diagnostic for Search ads, is built from three parts, and one of them is [landing page experience](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6167118), which Google defines as [how relevant and useful your landing page is to people who click your ad](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6167118).

Google's own landing page tips read like a list of what a good small business website does. They ask for [a clear way for your customers to contact you, front and center](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/11776459), says to [make sure your website is mobile-friendly](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/11776459), and to choose a page that [closely matches your ad text and keyword themes](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/11776459). It also warns that a page with a login requirement [will prevent your ads from serving](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/11776459).

A profile page gives every ad the same destination. Your own site lets each ad land on the page about that exact thing. If you do drain cleaning and water heaters, or haircuts and color, the person who searched for one sees that one, with its price and a button to book or call. Google says Search campaigns [support multiple landing pages per campaign](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/7652853), while Smart campaigns support a [max one landing page per campaign](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/7652853).

## How Humfrid does this for you

Humfrid builds the website your ads point to, by text. You text your business name, answer a few quick questions, and see your site on your phone. Nothing goes live without your OK, and it's up within a day, on your own .com, in your name, with a contact form and your phone number on it.

When an ad changes, the page keeps up. You text:

- "Our spring tune-up special runs through May, put it on the front page."
- "Add water heater installs to our services."
- "New hours: we're open Saturdays now."

You, or whoever runs your ads, stay in charge of the campaign; Humfrid keeps the page they land on right. Every plan includes online booking you accept and manage by text, and online payments, so the tap from an ad can become a booking on your own site, and every week you get a report with your visitors and bookings. Every plan also sets your site up to be found on Google, Google Maps, ChatGPT and other AI answers, so you're working on the searches you don't pay for too. And Humfrid helps you set up your Google Business Profile and keep it complete, and writes its posts and your review replies for you to post.

There's no setup fee and no contract. You see your website free for 14 days, and you cancel by text.

## What do I need to use my profile instead?

A verified Business Profile, linked to your Google Ads account. Google says to [connect your verified Business Profile to your Google Ads account](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/143059) first.

Not every business can have a profile. Google's rule is that [a business must make in-person contact with customers during its stated hours](https://support.google.com/business/answer/13763036), and it lists online-only businesses as ineligible. If you sell only online, you need a website to advertise at all.

## Which kinds of Google Ads campaigns work without a website?

Google names two: Performance Max and Smart campaigns.

| Campaign type, as Google names it | What Google's help says |
| --- | --- |
| Performance Max | With a verified profile, you can [send clicks from your Performance Max campaign directly to your Business Profile](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/14325369) |
| Smart campaigns | The landing page [can be your website or your Business Profile](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/11776459), which Google calls a good option [if your website isn't ready yet](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/11776459) |

Smart campaigns are the simpler of the two, with a [simplified, easy-to-use dashboard](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/7652853) that manages bidding for you.

## What about call ads?

Don't plan around them. Google says [call ads are being deprecated](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/16598240). Its schedule says that in February 2026 [all options to create a new call-only ad will be removed](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/16598240), and in February 2027 [all existing call-only ads will stop receiving impressions](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/16598240).

Google points advertisers to [call assets within responsive search ads](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/16598240) instead. Even call ads needed a website behind them: they asked for [a verification URL, which is the URL of a webpage that includes your business phone number](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6341403).

## What does a website let me measure?

Far more of what you're paying for. With a profile as the landing page, Google [automatically tracks](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/14325369) phone calls, directions, lead form submissions, and appointments and bookings made through integrated booking partners as local conversions.

A website adds the rest. Google's website conversions are [purchases, sign-ups, and other actions that customers complete on your website](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/1722022), and it can count [calls to a phone number on your website](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/1722022). Search campaigns also give [detailed reports at campaign, ad group, ad, keyword, and search term level](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/7652853), so you can see which searches bring customers and which don't.

The site doesn't need to be big. A few clear pages, with your services, prices, hours and a way to call or book, cover what Google asks for, and Humfrid puts all of it on your site from your texts. Our guide to [what to put on a small business website](/blog/what-to-put-on-a-small-business-website/) walks through them.

## Should I fix my free Google listing before I pay for ads?

Yes, along with your website. Ads and your free listing are separate: Google says [there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091). What helps the free listing is the basics, because [businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091). Google also bases prominence partly on [how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have](https://support.google.com/business/answer/7091).

So fill in your hours, services, photos and service area, add your website to your profile, ask happy customers for reviews, and keep it all current. Humfrid helps you set up your profile and keep it complete, and writes your review replies for you to post. If you're still not showing up, our post on [not showing up on Google Maps](/blog/not-showing-up-on-google-maps/) covers the common causes. Then, when you advertise, every tap lands somewhere ready for it.

Text Humfrid your business name, and you'll see your website within a day.
